BEYONDLABELZ.COM
is designed to engage teen visitors in an innovative, fun and interactive
experience that will reignite quest for learning, purpose, courage,
personal respect, self-love and triumph over adversity.
We intend to inspire teenagers
to create new ways to handle adversity and be judged not by their
physical appearance but by how they handle their circumstances.
We aim to evoke response-able action over labels and stereotypes
which paralyze creativity, the ability to make appropriate decisions
and choices and stifle the desire for success.
BEYONDLABELZ.COM is powered
by OLOWOTOT PRODUCTIONS® the mother company, established in
2001 by entrepreneur, teacher, author, producer Quelyn Purdie.
Quelyn has been teaching and counseling in some capacity for over
twenty years. She has taught at The Bridges Juvenile Center (formerly
known as Spofford Juvenile Detention) in Bronx, New York and served
as a caseworker for teens living in foster care in Bronx, New York.
She currently teaches in New York City public schools. Purdie's
experiences as a teacher and caseworker have inspired her to write
Validation Denied, Grace Bestowed:somewhere
between the ghetto and God was something called foster care… a memoir which
offers a poignant yet entertaining insight into a teenager's struggle
to defy the labels and stereotypes of living in foster care.
In
2001 Quelyn established OLOWOTOT PRODUCTIONS® in response to
the growing need to educate through art, teen trainings for projects
and events, and tutoring at-risk students in the New York City
public school system. She produced
the film The Task which
won best short at the 2007 Philadelphia Film Festival. Quelyn holds
a B.A. in Communication Studies from SUNY at Oswego and will begin
graduate coursework in education this fall towards a Master's in
guidance counseling. |
